The Specialist Mental Health Service for Older People (SMHSOP) is a community based service for people over the age 65 who may be experiencing issues with their mental health in the Albury and District region of New South Wales.

When you are someone you know experience one of more of the following:

  • Psychological distress
  • An emotional crisis
  • Feel mental health difficulties are interfering with daily life
  • Feel there is no future or life is not worth living

You can contact our service by calling the AccessLine 1800 800 944. Alternatively you can give permission for your GP, family, friends or another service to contact on your behalf.

If there is an urgent crisis that needs immediate attention you need to call the 24 hour AccessLine 1800 800 944.

 

The Team

SMHSOP is a multidisciplinary team consisting of nursing, allied health and a consultant psychiatrist. SMHSOP offers consultation and education to families and carers, and to other service providers including GP’s, aged residential care facility staff and agencies supporting older persons in the community.

Inpatient admission for older persons is available at Nolan House in Albury. Admission is facilitated through SMHSOP or through the Mental Health Emergency Consultation Service at the Albury Wodonga Health Albury Campus emergency department.
